iPod Obsessions: March 2011

  • "Things Will Get Better” by Bend Sinister
  • “The Hair Song” by Black Mountain
  • “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster The People – Thanks to Jeanne (whose blog you should check out) for introducing me to this band.
  • “Paris (Ooh La La)” by Grace Potter & The Nocturnals – My friend Rawson shared his top songs of the last year or so and brought this one to my attention, along with Kate Miller-Heidke and One eskimO below.
  • “Change of Time,” “Rattling Locks,” and “Lantern” by Josh Ritter – Saw him live for the 4th time in February and just continue to be impressed with his songwriting and stage presence. I'm working on a post about why he should be considered one of the great American songwriters.
  • “The One Thing I Know” and “Caught In the Crowd” by Kate Miller-Heidke
  • “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry
  • “Youth Knows No Pain” and “Sadness Is a Blessing” by Lykke Li
  • “Oh Canada!” by Nicole Atkins
  • “Kandi” by One eskimO
  • “Discoverer,” “Mine Smell Like Honey,” “Alligator Aviator Autopilot Antimatter,” and “Blue” by R.E.M.
  • “Morning Mr. Magpie” by Radiohead
  • “The Reason Why” by Ron Sexsmith
  • “Stamp” by The Rural Alberta Advantage
  • “Silverado” by Sarah Harmer
  • “Wait Up (Boots of Danger)” by Tokyo Police Club

From the Vault:

  • “Heal 2” by Catherine Wheel
  • “Hang Me Up to Dry” by Cold War Kids
  • “I Bet It Stung” by Tegan and Sara
  • “San Jacinto” by Peter Gabriel – Love the percussion and dramatic chorus.
  • “Supper's Ready” by Genesis – Yes, the old 24 minute chestnut from Foxtrot. I hadn’t listened to it in years, and forgot how wonderfully weird and self-indulgent it is.
  • “Sweet Old World” and “Lines Around Your Eyes” by Lucinda Williams – This album and Car Wheels on the Gravel Road are just so amazing. Aching music.
