Saturday Beer Review: The Maharaja Imperial IPA (Avery Brewing)

Appearance: Clear amber with a sustained, off-white head that lingers on the side of the glass.

Aroma: Great floral and grassy hops impressions with a hint of something else – vanilla or honey?

Mouthfeel: Full-bodied and almost thick with lingering aftertaste from the voluminous hoppage. Not too astringent or bitter.

Taste: They’ve got it right! A wonderful balance of hops on top of a malt base that’s strong enough to support the hops, rather than letting the hops overwhelm the beer, as often happens with this style. Similar notes to the aroma with honey and floral tones predominant.

Drinkability: This is exactly how an imperial IPA should be executed: the proper blend of malts and hops to prevent the over-bitterness that is plaguing craft beer right now. Eminently drinkable for you hopheads out there.
