Saturday Beer Review: Annie Schwarz German-style Black Lager (Haverhill Brewery)

Appearance: In a word, gorgeous! Dark dark brown with deep ruby highlights, Perfect for this style. Very thin, almost non-existent tan head.

Aroma: Clean, malty aroma with a very faint suggestion of fruit and a further hint of caramel or coffee.

Mouthfeel: A tad thin on the palate for my liking, although it follows through nicely. Low carbonation.

Taste: Nice! Malty but balanced nicely by a good choice of hops (and in the right amount). This adds just enough bitterness to match the dark malts in this beer.

Drinkability: One of the best American versions I’ve tasted of this style, one of my favorites. A little thinner than I’d like but otherwise well executed and very enjoyable.
